Thankfully the deluge was short-lived and the storm moved on. I built a small fire to warm myself, dry my clothes and heat the last of my meager rations. Dryer, a bit warmer, but more hungry than before, I crept back over the still-wet sycamore bridge. Despite my earlier concerns, the creek was still and calm.
